Two former sand extraction lakes where you can take a short walk with a chance of seeing various birds.
Zandgat Nijstad is a former sand extraction area that has been transformed into a recreational area in recent years. You can find various birds around the two lakes. Water birds on the lakes and songbirds such as Черноголовый щегол and Коноплянка on the dike-like hill, in the reed beds and along the path that runs between the two lakes.

Nederlands: Zangat Nijstad is een voormalig zandwingebied dat de afgelopen jaren is getransformeerd tot een recreatiegebied. Rondom de twee plassen kun je diverse vogels vinden. Watervogels op de plassen en zangvogels zoals Черноголовый щегол en Коноплянка op de dijkachtige heuvel, in de rietkragen en langs het pad dat tussen beide plassen loopt.
Zandgat Nijstad is located directly west of the city of Hoogeveen. There is a spacious parking lot. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking lot you have to walk a bit to the large iron gate further on the Koedijk, you can easily go around it on the left.
