Description
The Pettelaar estate is considered part of the higher sandy soils, which also include the Drunense Duinen and the Vughtse Hei. To the north of these sandy soils one finds the landscape that was influenced by the rivers (Meuse, Aa, Dommel), the so-called fluvial landscape. The combination of many avenues of different types of trees, transitions from dry to wet, from high to low, and the presence of meadows, fields and bushes give the estate a small-scale appearance. In such a varied area as the Pettelaar there are many birds such as finches, Большая синица, Ополовник and Лазоревка, Обыкновенный поползень and Большой пёстрый дятел. In the vicinity you can regularly find Канюк, in the ponds and ditches there are plenty of ducks and Серая цапля to be seen.

Nederlands: Landgoed "Pettelaer" (49 ha) ligt ten zuiden van 's-Hertogenbosch en is in de 18e eeuw aangelegd als kleinschalig parkachtig gebied. Landgoed Pettelaar wordt gerekend tot de hogere zandgronden, waartoe ook de Drunense Duinen en de Vughtse Hei behoren. Ten noorden van deze zandgronden vindt men het landschap dat werd beïnvloed door de rivieren (Maas, Aa, Dommel), het zogenaamde rivierlandschap. De combinatie van vele lanen van verschillende soorten bomen, overgangen van droog naar nat, van hoog naar laag en de aanwezigheid van weilanden, velden en struiken geven het landgoed een kleinschalige uitstraling. In zo'n afwisselend gebied als de Pettelaar komen veel vogels voor zoals vinken, Большая синица, Ополовник en Лазоревка, Обыкновенный поползень en Большой пёстрый дятел. In de omgeving vind je regelmatig de Канюк, in de vijvers en sloten zijn volop eenden en Серая цапля te zien.

There is a parking space on the Pettelaarse Schans (other side A2) on the Oude Gestelseweg, opposite the Provinciehuis. Paths freely accessible.
