More than 100 years ago, Jachtslot Mookerheide (hunting lodge) was built in an Art Nouveau style. A park forest was created around it, which now has beautiful old oak and beech trees and where many birds have their habitats. In early spring you can hear and see 5 species of woodpecker: Средний пёстрый дятел, Малый пёстрый дятел, Большой пёстрый дятел, Зелёный дятел, Желна. Early summer is the best time for Обыкновенный козодой around the open heather areas. Where you can also find Черноголовый чекан. In the forest Тетеревятник, Обыкновенный осоед, Мухоловка-пеструшка, Черноголовая гаичка, Обыкновенная горихвостка, Обыкновенный дубонос, Хохлатая синица and many other forest species can be found. In winter the forest is worth a visit for the early breeders and winter guests. Local birds that start early with breeding are Клёст-еловик en Серая неясыть.

Nederlands: Mooie wandeling door oud bos en langs open heidevelden in de heuvels rondom het jachthuis Mookerheide. Goed gebied voor het zien van bosvogels. Meer dan 100 jaar geleden werd Jachtslot Mookerheide gebouwd in Art Nouveau-stijl. Daaromheen is een parkbos ontstaan, waar nu prachtige oude eiken- en beukenbomen staan. In het vroege voorjaar hoor en zie je 5 spechtsoorten: Средний пёстрый дятел, Малый пёстрый дятел, Большой пёстрый дятел, Зелёный дятел, Желна. De vroege zomer is de beste tijd voor Обыкновенный козодой rond de open heidegebieden. Daar vind je ook Черноголовый чекан. In het bos Тетеревятник, Обыкновенный осоед, Мухоловка-пеструшка, Черноголовая гаичка, Обыкновенная горихвостка, Обыкновенный дубонос, Хохлатая синица en vele andere bosvogels. In de winter is het bos een bezoek waard voor de vroege broedvogels en wintergasten. Vogels die vroeg beginnen met broeden zijn Клёст-еловик en Серая неясыть.

Access
The route starts at the parking lot of Landgoed Mookerheide on Heumensebaan 2 in Molenhoek (See the P on the map). The 6 km walking trail is shown on the map. The route is indicated with yellow arrows, but you can also follow the route on your smartphone. You will pass the hunting lodge, the historic greenhouses and gardens, heath areas, a watchtower, the Heumense schans, the Mookerschans and nice viewpoints on the river Meuse.
