Jaj Cedars Nature Reserve

Byblos district  >  Lebanon

One of the smallest nature reserves in Lebanon. Relics of Cedrus libani stand there amidst dramatic karst rock settings, 1500m above sea level, incredible view.

Description

Jaj Cedars Nature Reserve has a very beautiful belvedere to watch soaring bird migration, and sunsets are incredible with a view on a beautiful sea of clouds to the west quite often. The Cedrus libani stand is one of the oldest, with a particular old cedar tree, a "Khetyara", that is immediately recognisable, close to the church. Rock specialist breeding species can be found such as Синий каменный дрозд. Entomologically and herpetologically speaking, the surroundings of the reserve and the dry grasslands around it are very rich.

Access

Jaj Cedars Nature Reserve is located in Jaj village, about 68 kilometers north of Beirut and 23 kilometers from Jbeil. Access by car is only possible via the Jaj village road. The relatively badly maintained road is better navigated with a 4WD, and in winter snow can block the access.
