Description
The forests of slopes in Gauja National Park with old deciduous trees attract less common species of woodpeckers (Белоспинный дятел, Трёхпалый дятел, Желна and Средний пёстрый дятел). Relatively often spotted are the elsewhere rare Зелёная пеночка, Малая мухоловка and locally common Рябчик. Длиннохвостая неясыть has started nesting in the park, and the smallest owl of Latvia — Воробьиный сычик — is also seen more often. Many Коростель and some species of warblers, which are not common in Western Europe (Речной сверчок, Садовая камышевка), are found in the riverside meadows of Gauja.
