This lake and wetland is of great value for birds and among the largest in southern Italy. The lake, reed beds, bushes and wetland attract many birds.
Lago Matese is a beautiful alpine lake situated in the Matese Regional Park. The lake covers a surface area of 5 square kilometres and is 15 metres deep at its deepest point. It stands at an elevation of 1,011 metres above sea level. The lake attracts many ducks and is a rest and feeding area for many birds during migration. Among the birds you can encounter are Чирок-трескунок, Чирок-свистунок, Белоглазый нырок, Малая поганка, Обыкновенная горлица, Обыкновенная кукушка, Серый журавль, Ходулочник, Большой улит, Фифи, Большая выпь, Волчок, Рыжая цапля, Жёлтая цапля, Кваква, Каравайка, Колпица, Обыкновенный осоед, Змееяд, Беркут, Болотный лунь, Красный коршун, Чёрный коршун, Сплюшка, Удод, Обыкновенный жулан, Клушица and Ворон.

Lago Matese is situated in the Matese Regional Park, within the Province of Caserta. The lake can be reached by car. There is a road that runs along the entire perimeter but best option is to park and explore the banks on foot. Click on the P in the map for directions.
