Description
Birding at Ljóskastarahúsið is usually rewarding in one way or another. During migration, thousands of seabirds, like Моевка, Тонкоклювая кайра, Гагарка, Глупыш and Тупик pass the westernmost point on the Seltjarnarnes peninsula. In summer, birds like Северная олуша and Глупыш can be seen feeding, and if you're lucky, a Обыкновенный буревестник or a Серый буревестник might pass. In the wintertime, the sea hosts Морянка, Хохлатый баклан and you might be able to find a Люрик.
Visit Ljóskastarahúsið when the wind is strong, preferably towards land and the Reykjavík bay. Not many Icelandic birders spend time seawatching, so chances are high that you'll be the one yelling "albatross!". Remember to check the ponds and shoreline on your way to and from.
