Salt flats on the east coast of Zakynthos in the resort of Alykes.
Alykes is named after the Greek name for salt flats. Nowadays it’s one of the most popular resorts on the island of Zakynthos. Until the late 1970s salt was produced in the Alykes Salt Pans. But today the area is a beautiful nature reserve. Among the birds you can encounter are Ходулочник, Малый зуёк, Малая белая цапля, Жёлтая цапля, Перевозчик, Золотистая цистикола, Дроздовидная камышевка and Жёлтая трясогузка.
Easy accessible and on walking distance from the resort of Alykes. You can walk around the salt pans on the surrounding roads, or walk on the road that is in the middle of the salt pans.
