Description
The area of Windknollen - close to the city of Jena - is a small mountain with a mosaic landscape containing mostly semi-dry short grass vegetation, temporarily water-filled depressions, bushes, mixed deciduous forest and isles of pine trees. Once a military training area it is now a little nature reserve (185 ha). Typical birds here are Полевой жаворонок, Лесной жаворонок, Просянка, Обыкновенный жулан and Черноголовый чекан. You can also easily find Обыкновенная овсянка, Седой дятел , Московка, Пустельга обыкновенная Канюк and Красный коршун.

You can access Windknollen only on foot from different directions, for example from the village of Closewitz or through Steingrund.
