Description

When Berlin was split after the Second World War, the famous Zoologischer Garten ended up in the British sector. The GDR leadership wanted its own showcase zoo, but something grander, more spacious, more “people’s park” than the dense West Berlin zoo. They chose the rolling landscape around Schloss Friedrichsfelde. Today, it spans 160 hectares, making it the largest landscaped animal park in Europe. A place with long, quiet paths, wide meadows, and naturalistic enclosures that create a very different atmosphere from the compact Zoo Berlin. Common seen bird include: Большой пёстрый дятел, Зелёный дятел, Серая цапля, Канюк, Мандаринка, Обыкновенный поползень, Ополовник and many others.
