Description

The Seeholz on the western lakeshore of Ammersee is an around 350 years old broadleaf forest with oaks, beeches, ash trees and sycamore maples. Many woodpeckers live here due to the large amounts of dead wood. In addition to the more common species like Большой пёстрый дятел, Зелёный дятел and Желна, these also include Средний пёстрый дятел, Малый пёстрый дятел and Седой дятел. There are also many other forest birds.

Furthermore, lots of waterfowl can be observed on the lakeside, including rare winter visitors such as Чернозобая гагара, Турпан, Серощекая поганка and Красношейная поганка. There is a good view of the lake from the Dampfersteg (steamer pier) Riederau.

Access

The Seeholz is located north of the town of Riederau. The site can be reached in 15 minutes on foot from the southern Riederau train station, which is served every hour by the Ammerseebahn Augsburg-Geltendorf-Weilheim. In the village of Holzhausen north and Rieden west of Seeholz there are bus connections (LVG line 95) to Utting and Dießen, but only a few times a day and not at all on Sundays and public holidays. Parking is possible in Riederau. The forest itself can be explored on foot and partly by bike. Please note that it is not possible to cross the rails north of the forest so you will have to go back the same way to Riederau if you are on the western side of it.
