The "Alter See" is the only breeding place for Черношейная поганка in Lower Franconia. Both small lakes have furthermore large reed zones.

Description

Both lakes are worth a visit during breeding season. Apart from the already mentioned Черношейная поганка patient scanning of the reeds might produce Волчок, Рыжая цапля, Дроздовидная камышевка, Варакушка and Соловьиный сверчок.

Access

The site is located between Gerolzhofen and Mönchstockheim. A car park lies immediately north of the Neuer See. You can explore the area best by foot or by bicycle. On both lakes you find a gap in the reed belt on their western shore, which allow a sufficient overview.
