Description
The Limbacher Teiche are a wetland north-west of Chemnitz. The ponds and wet meadows are home many birds. More than 90 bird species have been recorded breeding in the area and many more on migration. The wet meadows and reeds serve as a resting place for Бекас and Гаршнеп. Breeding birds include Тростниковая овсянка, Дроздовидная камышевка and Варакушка. Sometimes also Болотный лунь. Around the Großen Teich (Great Pond) you can also observe many birds. The best view opens up from the main dam. In particular, the small island with its Озерная чайка colony is a highlight in itself. Other breeding birds at the Great Pond are Хохлатая чернеть, Красноголовый нырок, Серая славка and Тростниковая камышевка.
The nature trail ('Naturlehrpfad') leads through the wet meadows in the Lohteichtal where sometimes Коростель is heard. Other birds in this area are Болотная камышевка and Обыкновенный жулан. Rare birds like Погоныш, Болотная сова and Дупель have been observed in this area. The nature trail leads you on to the Großen und Kleinen Mühlteich (Large and Small Mill Pond) where you have a chance to spot birds like Обыкновенный зимородок, Малая поганка and Дроздовидная камышевка.

Access
The best place to start your tour through the Limbach ponds is in the parking lot at the city park of Limbach-Oberfrohna. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the parking place. The nature trail in the Limbach pond area is very well signposted. The route which is shown on the map is about 7 km long.
