Description
The Kemnader See is located on the southern outskirts of the city of Bochum and borders on Witten and Hattingen. The shore of the reservoir is developed with paved paths and a cycle path. The lake is traversed by the river Ruhr, in the estuary area of the river, gravel islands are formed, where mainly gulls (up to 6 species!) can be observed in winter. The lake is also a roosting place for Канадская казарка and Серый гусь in winter. In winter: regular Гоголь, Луток, Большой крохаль, Красноголовый нырок, Хохлатая чернеть, Чирок-свистунок, Серая утка and Кряква. Турпан, Чернозобая гагара, Краснозобая гагара are occasional winter visitors, and Черноклювая гагара have also been observed. Обыкновенный зимородок can be seen regularly all year round, Береговушка in summer. Речная крачка and Чёрная крачка are migrants, as is Скопа. The black swans, which have been breeding here regularly for many years, are famous.

Accessible by car via the A43 motorway, exit Witten-Herbede. Parking spaces at the "Freiteitbad Heveney". Click on the P in the map for directions. Bus stops "Freizeitbad Heveney" and in the south "Herbede Mitte" and "Wittener Straße".
