Complex of extensive used fishponds and small basins located on the two sides of the Maritsa River.
Zvanichevo Fishponds are located between the rivers of Maritsa and Topolnitsa. The area includes also the wet meadows and farmlands between the Maritsa and the Topolnitsa, the two riverbeds and the place where the Topolnitsa River joins the Maritsa River. The different basins of the fishponds are for a large part overgrown with water vegetation. The Maritsa River banks have riverine forest of willow, poplar and alder. More than 230 bird species are registered in the area. Many different bird species breed in the area or make a stop during migration. Белоглазый нырок breeds in considerable numbers. Breeding species are also Малая поганка , Чомга , Кваква , Волчок , Рыжая цапля , Соловьиная широкохвостка , Соловьиный сверчок and etc. Малый баклан regularly use the area as feeding ground during the winter. Other birds you can encounter are Сизоворонка, Чирок-трескунок, Золотистая щурка, Обыкновенный жулан, Черныш, Ходулочник, Малый зуёк, Болотный лунь, Удод, Обыкновенный ремез, Иволга and Дроздовидная камышевка.
The Zvanichevo Fishponds are located 4 km to the west of the town of Pazardzhik. The ponds are located on two sides of the Maritsa River. Good area to explore are the ponds close to the village of Zvanichevo. From the north side of the village you can explore the area on foot or by bike.
