Description
Like other points on the Kaliakra peninsula, Yailata is a very good place to observe bird migration, on one of the main bird migration routes in Europe - Via Pontica. An interesting place also during the breeding season with beautifully blooming Asphodeline lutea, irises and peonies in the breathtaking scenery of the cliff coast.
Yailata is one of the best places to observe Каменка-плешанка and Хохлатый баклан, which nest nearby on the cliffs. On the steppes, which are slightly higher, you can observe: Степной жаворонок and Малый жаворонок. Черноголовая овсянка and Красноголовый сорокопут like to sit on the bushes.
During the migration period, you can see practically everything that flies along the coast (see list). The bushes or cliffs are then full of flycatchers, warblers, phylloscopus, etc. Due to the characteristics of the place, waterfowl or plovers are usually observed only in flight. August-September and April-May are good months for observing Левантский буревестник which sometimes fly closer to the cliffs. Also Чернозобая гагара often feeds close to shore.
