Description

Caye Caulker is a small Caribbean island off the coast of Belize. It’s divided by a narrow channel called the Split. In the south is the island’s only settlement, known as Caye Caulker Village. The north of the island is home to dense mangrove forest and diverse birdlife, protected by a forest reserve.

Caye Caulker is one of the main tourist destinations on the Belize Barrier Reef and there are probably better and quieter islands for birdwatching, but due to its tourism there are frequent boats going from and to the island and there are plenty of options for accommodation and food.

Access

Caye Caulker is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) north-northeast of Belize City, and is accessible by high-speed water taxi or small plane. Measuring about 5 miles (8.0 km) (north to south) by less than 1 mile (1.6 km) (east to west), the island is easily explored by foot but many resort rent out bikes as well.

The split, a narrow channel separating northern and southern part of the island can be crossed by small ferries.
