Description

An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly Pitulice fluierătoare and Pitulice mică, but also Silvie mică and Silvie cu cap negru. More mature trees provide habitat for Huhurez mic. Țiclean and Papagal Micul Alexandru have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular Pescăraș albastru and Codobatură de munte, and occasional Pescărel negru in winter. In its lower tidal section Fluierar cu picioare roșii is regular, and the semi-tame Rață mares can attract other ducks, including Călifar alb, Rață mică, and more rarely Rață sulițar and Rață mandarin. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; Cufundar mare, Alcă nordică and Alcă atlantică have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of Pescăruș cu trei degetes moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
