Bird hide at one of the best breeding areas for meadow birds in the North East of Scotland.
Tomintoul Bird Hide is a small place to observe meadow birds on the Glenlivet Estate. The area is a stronghold for wading birds and is one of the best breeding areas in North East of Scotland. Culic mare, Nagâț, Scoicar, Becațină comună and Fluierar cu picioare roșii can all be spotted here thanks to careful farming regimes and the creation of ponds and wetland areas. Shallow muddy scrapes have been created to provide feeding sites for the waders and their chicks during the breeding season. In the bird hide you find some additional information. Other birds that can be spotted in the surroundings are Cânepar, Potârniche cu picioare roșii, Ciocârlie, Fâsă de luncă, Acvilă de munte and Codalb.
The hide can be found opposite the junction of the A939 Cock Bridge road and B9008 Ballindalloch road. Click on the P in the map to get directions. Parking is signposted and directly at the main road. The short walk to the hide is less than 100 metres. There are also a couple of signposted hikes starting from the carpark.
