Broad river valley with streams, ditches, woodland, marshes, reedbeds, fishing pools, irrigation ponds and apple orchards. Historic chapel at Michaelchurch.
The main areas of interest are;
1. Gamber Meadows - reedbed, river and rushy swamp. Access from St Weonards, see map. May have Pescăraș albastru, Becațină comună, Uliu păsărar, Codobatură galbenă, Huhurez mic, Presură de stuf and Lăcar de stuf.
2. Pencoyd fishing and irrigation pools. Park at Pencoyd church. May have Ghionoaie verde, Ciocănitoare pestriță mare, Codobatură de munte, Sturz de vâsc, Mărăcinar negru, Silvie de câmp, Silvie cu cap negru, Stârc cenușiu, Șorecar comun, Vânturel roșu and Corb.
3. Apple orchards north of Michaelchurch. 100's of Cocoșar and Sturzul viilor in winter.
4. Stubble fields, field margins sown for pheasants etc - attract flocks of Ciocârlie, Cânepar, Scatiu, Stăncuță and occasional Inăriță mică and Cinteză de iarnă in late autumn. Gaie roșie and Corb.
Mammals in the area include roe and muntjac deer, hare, red fox and badger.
St Weonards is midway between Hereford and Monmouth on the A466. Buses every two hours from either town. Parking opposite the school then walk through churchyard. Please do not park by the church, as this obstructs farmer's machinery. The circular route from St Weonards is about 5 km.
Pencoed and Michaelchurch are near Harewood End on the A49 Hereford-Ross road. Buses are hourly from either town. The circular route from Pencoyd church is about 3 km.
