The Reedbed Nature Reserve at Watermead Country Park is another great nature reserve to birdwatch in Leicestershire, with wildlife all surrounding you.
Tucked away in Leicestershire, the Reedbed Nature Reserve at Watermead Country Park consists of four hides, one of which looks over the fabulous Wanlip Meadows. In winter, Cârstel de baltă and with a little bit of luck Buhai de baltă can be seen stalking in the extensive reedbeds there. Inăriță, various Tits and Scatiu will visit the feeders from the Kingfisher Hide. Pescăraș albastru can also be viewed from most of the hides.
Spring announces the arrival of waders and the marshier area of the River Soar, viewed from the Plover Hide is great for Becațină comună and Fluierar cu picioare roșii. Other waders such as Fugaci de țărm, Culic mare and Scoicar can also be seen around the reserve. Chiră de baltă, Lăstun de mal, Lăstun de casă, Rândunică and Drepnea neagră all fly around the reserve in spring and summer, with the Lăstun de mal nesting in the bank for them. Autumn is quite an interesting month for migration for more waders such as Fluierar cu picioare verzi, Fluierar de zăvoi, Fluierar de munte, Ciocîntors and Prundăraș gulerat mic can be viewed from around the reserve.
Park at either the Fingers Lake car park at Watermead or the Reedbed car park and access the four gates to the Reedbed Nature Reserve from there.
