WWT Martin Mere is a wetland nature reserve on the West Lancashire Coastal Plain. It is managed by the Wildlife & Wetlands Trust.
Martin Mere is a Site of Special Interest. The name of the centre comes from the mere on the west side of the reserve, which is ringed by more than ten observation hides. This reserve is at its best in winter, attracting huge flocks of Gâscă cu cioc scurt, Rață fluierătoare and Rață mică, many Lebădă de iarnă, and occasional rarer birds such as Gâscă de zăpadă, Rață fluierătoare americană and Rață mică. It is also excellent for wintering birds of prey such as Erete vânăt, Șoim călător and Șoim de iarnă. Waders such as Sitar de mal, Bătăuș and Fluierar cu picioare roșii can be seen from hides as well as rarer smaller birds such as Cinteză de iarnă in the woodlands.
WWT Martin Mere is located 5 km north of Ormskirk and 8 km east of Southport. The site has a large car park. Click on the P in the map for directions. Admission price for adults £ 14.50.
