Half Moon Common - Court Copse is North West of the City of Southampton in Hampshire.
The area comprises of a large area of heathland with both deciduous and conifer woodland.
(*1), from around the car park area scan for overflying Șorecar comun, Vânturel roșu, Uliu păsărar and Gaie roșie. During the Summer Viespar are sometimes seen. More open areas have can have Porumbel de scorbură, Sturz de vâsc, Ghionoaie verde, Fâsă de luncă, Ciocârlie and Ciocârlie de pădure. Gorse (Ulex) patches have Silvie de tufiș and Mărăcinar negru.
(*2), Broadleaved woodland here hold Botgros, Ciocănitoare pestriță mică, Țiclean, Cojoaică de pădure. In Summer Turturică, Muscar sur, Codroș de pădure, Pitulice mică, Silvie cu cap negru and Cuc can all be expected. Birch (Betula) trees can attract Mărăcinar mare, Pitulice sfârâitoare, Silvie de zăvoi, Pitulice fluierătoare, Silvie mică, Cânepar, Mugurar and Pițigoi codat.
(*3), Court Copse area, scattered scrub here on the North edge of the copse, have 'roding' Sitar de pădure and 'churring" Caprimulg in the evenings. More open areas have Fâsă de luncă and Ciocârlie, scattered trees can have Ciocârlie de pădure and Fâsă de pădure.
Be sure to check any scrubland for Presură galbenă, Mărăcinar negru, Cânepar, Silvie de câmp and Silvie mică. Conifers around the site can have Aușel cu cap galben, Aușel sprâncenat, Pițigoi de brădet, Scatiu and the occasional Forfecuță.
Leave the M27 motorway at junction 2, on roundabout take exit signed Salisbury/Romsey/Fawley/A36, at next roundabout take second exit signed Salisbury/Plaitford/Wellow/A36. Continue on this road turning Left at sign for Bradshaw, pass over cattle grid onto Black Hill Road. Continue on this road and large car park (free) is on the Left.
