Description

The Bradwell Shell Bank is a nature reserve of 12 hectares. A visit at high tide (see link to tides table below) in autumn and winter will reward you with views of up to 20,000 waders roosting and creating murmurations in the sky. This saltmarsh is a habitat for a wide variety of birds, from Codobatură galbenă to Ciocârlie. During the summer months waders such as Scoicar and Prundăraș gulerat mare will breed along the shellbanks, so please keep to the seawall to avoid disturbance and watch them raise their young from afar.

The mud and sandflats to the east are part of the Dengie National Nature Reserve, an internationally important site for overwintering waders especially Ploier argintiu, Fugaci mare and Sitar de mal nordic. Winter often brings Erete vânăt and Ciuf de câmp.
