Description

There are numerous car parks around Blagdon Reservoir, and two bird hides. An 8 km circular walk around the lake is possible. See map on the link below.

The chief interest is the easternmost hide looking over the autumn mudflats. Expect Fugaci de țărm, Sitar de mal, Nisipar, Fluierar cu picioare roșii, Fluierar cu picioare verzi and plovers. The swampy wooded area by the hide may have Sitar de pădure and Becațină comună. Wintering ducks may include Rață sunătoare, Rață fluierătoare, Rață lingurar, perhaps Rață de ghețuri or Corcodel cu cioc gros. In stormy winter weather, proximity to the Bristol channel makes this a refuge for windblown seabirds. 177 species have been seen, including rarities such as Notatiță, Fugaciul lui Baird, Fugaci pitic and Chirighiță neagră. Note: A permit is required (see info below).
