It is a breeding place for Stârc cenușiu that can be observed from the path, and a habitat for waterfowl and for birds living in extensively used meadows. It is also a spawning ground for numerous amphibian species. Bird species that can be observed here include Stârc cenușiu, Lăcar mic, Vrabie de câmp, Codroș de pădure , Lișiță, Rață mare, Lăstun de casă, Rândunică, Drepnea neagră, Uliu păsărar, Vânturel roșu, Șorecar comun, Scatiu, Ciocănitoare pestriță mare, Pițigoi albastru, Pițigoi codat, Pițigoi mare, Măcăleandru, Cinteză, Mierlă, Graur, Cioară neagră, Rață mandarin, Ferestraș mare, Guguștiuc, Porumbel gulerat, and Barză albă.

Access
There is a public car park next to the lake. However, travelling by bus number 912 from Zürich Bellevue or bus number 919 from the Küsnacht train station (both to the bus station Itschnach-Tägermoos) is recommended. You can also reach Schübelweiher on different walkways leading there from Küsnacht train station in ca. 40 minutes.

From February, Stârc cenușiu breed on an island. This allows fascinating observations of the feeding and the progress of the young birds from the walking path. Occasionally a Barză albă may be looking for a bite in one of the meadows next to the lake.
