From August to October, numerous thermal gliding birds can be observed passing through the skies around Gurten. The best time is late August and early September. Then large numbers of Viespar are possible. With a bit of luck, Barză neagră will also pass by. Other regular species are: Șorecar comun, Uliu păsărar, Uliu porumbar, Vânturel roșu, Șoimul rândunelelor, Gaie roșie, Gaie neagră, Uligan pescar, Erete sur, Erete de stuf and Barză albă. In later autumn large flocks of Porumbel gulerat pass by. From time to time Drepnea mare can be observed on food flights.

Access
The Gurten hill is located directly south of Bern city center. The best way is to take the Gurtenbahn funicular that runs from the city to the Gurten. From there it is only a 10 minutes walk to the viewing and observation point.
