At Motala Ströms river mouth in Glan you can see seldom visited coastal meadows, and bird rich islets from the wide view of the hills.

Description

Ljusfors lies in the northern part of Östgötaslätten, a large Swedish plain. It is surrounded by large amounts of forest. The coastal meadows are often visited by flocks of Rață moțată, Pescăruș sur, Pescăruș argintiu, Pescăruș negru, Pescăruș râzător, Rață sunătoare, Rață mare, Lebădă de vară, Lebădă de iarnă, Lișiță, Ferestraș mare (some times up to 500) Stârc cenușiu and Cormoran mare in the open not frozen parts of the lake. Smaller amounts of rarer wintering waterfowl like Corcodel mic, Ferestraș moțat, Ferestraș mic, Corcodel mare, and Pescăraș albastru.

In the oak meadows tits, woodpeckers, finches winter along with common winter birds like Mugurar, Mătăsar, Inăriță, and Cinteză de iarnă. On the fields geese and swans can be found. Gâscă de vară, Gâscă canadiană, and Gâscă de semănătură have all been sighted.

During spring and autumn the coastal meadows are filled with large amounts of gulls, waders, passerine birds and terns. Fluierar de mlaștină, Fluierar cu picioare roșii, Fluierar de munte, Nagâț, Bătăuș, Becațină comună, Prundăraș gulerat mic, and Culic mare are all observed although there are often not many wadingbirds.

During spring rains hundreds of Chiră de baltă and Pescăruș râzător could be forced on the lake. Along with smaller amounts of Pescăruș argintiu, Pescăruș sur, Pescăruș negru and Chiră polară.

In the spring and summer large amounts of passerine birds can be heard in the forests. Although mostly common birds can be found, also rarer birds like Muscar mic, Ciocănitoare pestriță mică and Botgros can be observed.

On the islands Lăcar mare, Pescăruș râzător (large colony), Rață moțată, Rață pestriță, Gâscă călugăriță, Gâscă de vară, Fluierar cu picioare roșii and Cormoran mare likely breed. Common passerines on the coastal meadows are Inăriță cu cioc galben (rare and only during the migration), Cânepar, Codobatură galbenă, Sticlete, Fâsă de luncă and Ciocârlie.

Many species of dabbling ducks can also be found during this season like Rață mică, Rață fluierătoare, Rață pestriță, Rață lingurar, and Rață cârâitoare. Along the river Codobatură de munte and Pescăraș albastru breed, and Pescărel negru can be found.

Access

There are 2 parking spots and 2 nature reserves at the river mouth, one at each side of the river. There is a parking spot and trail at both reserves. At ljusfors naturreservat the trail goes up on a large hill which is perfect for viewing the area. Click on a P in the map for directions.
