It is a fine place to see a lot of ducks and shorebirds away from the concrete roads. Among the birds you can encounter are Rață cu cap alb, Flamingo roz, Corcodel cu gât negru, Găinușă albastră, Piciorong, Ciocîntors, Prundăraș gulerat mare, Nisipar, Fugaci mic, Cormoran mare, Stârc cenușiu, Sfrâncioc mare iberic, Ciocârlan spaniol and Ciocârlan.
There is a sandy road of 2 km running from the far edge of Cabo de Gata town to Playa del Charco where you can park. Click on the p in the map for directions. From the parking you can explore the area by mountain bike or just walk around the water. You can also walk a beachside track from Cabo de Gata.
