Description
Despite its small size La Marjal dels Moros is home to some large bird populations of several species, including seriously endangered species. One of the highlights in springtime are the flocks of different types of wading birds that come here to breed, including colonies of Chiră de baltă, Chiră mică, Ciovlică ruginie, Chirighiță cu obraz alb and Piciorong. There is also a large breeding population of Rață cu ciuf, which is increasingly rare in Valencia. The Rață porumbacă is another endangered species that breeds here, and the Marjal marks its northernmost location in Europe. In wintertime you can see large flocks of Egretă mică and Rață lingurar, as well as spectacular gatherings of Cormoran mare, and it is not uncommon to see Flamingo roz, Egretă mare or Țigănuș. Other nice birds you can see include Erete de stuf, Corcodel mic, Găinușă de baltă, Găinușă albastră and Pescăraș albastru.
