Description
La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different Vultur negru nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are Gaie neagră, Șerpar and Acvilă mică.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing Barză neagră. On- and around the river Stârc cenușiu, Egretă mică and Cormoran mare are present most of the time, as well as Stârc roșu sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of Potârniche cu picioare roșii, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.

Access
La Higuerilla is easily reached from Villareal de San Carlos. It is the third viewpoint (on the left side of the road) after passing the Torrejon-Tietar dam. You can park next to the viewpoint. Press P on the map for directions.
