Description

Radensko Polje is a small karst plain south-east of Ljubljana. The landscape is a mosaic of wet meadows, fields, hedgerows and surrounding forest edges, creating a rich variety of habitats within a compact area.

The plain is home to Barză albă, Stârc cenușiu, Stârc roșu, Egretă mare and Egretă mică. Seasonal floods attract ducks such as Rață cu cap castaniu, Rață mică, Rață fluierătoare and Rață moțată, as well as Fluierar de munte and Fluierar de zăvoi, while Pescăraș albastru can be found along streams. Raptors include Șorecar comun , Vânturel roșu and Uliu porumbar, with Vânturel de seară passing during migration. Warblers and several woodpeckers add to the diversity.

Though not the easiest birding location - birds tend to be elusive and the terrain challenging - Radensko Polje rewards patience with excellent birdlife and scenic karst landscape.
