Description
The Pitões das Júnias area is relatively unknown and very quiet in the protected nature reserve Geres (part of Peneda Geres). The nature is overwhelmingly beautiful, as is the authentic village of Pitoes (full of swallows). After the border at Tourem, the area continues into another beautiful area that is close to a small reservoir in Galicia. You can really see many birds species and the birds are relatively tame. For example: a Grangur just stayed on a telephone cable while we quietly drove along a narrow road, normally it is a shy bird. Among the other birds you can see in the area are Vultur sur, Gaie roșie, Acvilă de munte, Rândunică roșcată, Pupăză and Lăstun de stâncă.

Access
At Pitoes there is a parking lot from which it is possible to take a (short) walk to a 70m waterfall and a Roman church (see the map). Long walks can also be made in this area where it is also possible to see wild horses (Garanno breed and a very old breed of cow with huge horns). We encountered many birds of prey (eagles, kites), Vultur sur, Barză albă, Stârc de cireadă Turturică and different swallow species.
