Description
Tisnes is a small peninsula with farmland, ponds, marshland and coastline attracting lots of different birds. Good for waders, ducks, geese and passerines. It is an important migratory area for water birds with many observations during both spring and autumn. During the spring migration Fugaci mare can often be observed. Every year some unexpected rare birds pop in here. The nature reserve is of national ornithological importance and is one of the most species diverse areas in the Troms County. Tisnes headlands offer important nesting areas for waders. A large number of mating Bătăuș can be found here. Among the other bird species that may be found here are Eider, Ferestraș moțat, Rață lingurar, Rață sulițar, Lup de mare mic, Ploier auriu, Culic mare, Sitar de mal nordic, Sitar de mal, Becațină comună and Fluierar de mlaștină.

Access
Drive from Tromsø 30 minutes or take a public bus 420 (check timetable for latest return to Tromsø!). Public bus route 420 passes here and a 2 km walk around the area from the mainroad gives access to Lakjosen delta, Hestedammen small ponds and fields with waders, passerines and ducks/geese. Best period May - July. Click on the P in the map for directions. Note: there are some private lands in the area so be aware that there can be horses and cattle outside roads. It's easy to walk or cycle the main road. These are protected areas and farmland so do not walk into the wet areas.
