Description
Over the centuries, this area has been captured from the Wadden Sea. Salt marshes have been constructed on the Wadden Sea coast, which were eventually embanked. Thus the coast crept further and further north. There are numerous old and new dikes in the area. The Uithuizerwad consists of the outer-dike salt marsh area Uithuizerwad and the inner-dike Ruidhorn. Especially at high tide the birding is spectacular here. The birds look en masse for a place where they can rest safely and wait for low tide. Thousands of birds can be seen at high tide on the salt marsh outside the dike at the Uithuizerwad. Many Ciocîntors also breed here. That is why the Uithuizerwad is not accessible.

Nederlands: Dit gebied is in de loop der eeuwen buit gemaakt op de Waddenzee. Aan de waddenkust zijn kwelders aangelegd, die uiteindelijk bedijkt werden. Zo kroop de kust steeds verder naar het noorden. In de omgeving zijn talloze oude en nieuwe dijkjes te zien. Het Uithuizerwad bestaat uit het buitendijkse kweldergebied Uithuizerwad en de binnendijkse Ruidhorn. Vooral bij hoogwater is het hier spectaculair vogels kijken. De vogels zoeken dan massaal een plek waar ze veilig kunnen uitrusten en wachten tot het weer eb wordt. Op de buitendijkse kwelder bij het Uithuizerwad zijn bij hoogwater dan ook duizenden vogels te zien. Binnendijks broeden in het voorjaar veel kluten. Daarom is het Uithuizerwad niet toegankelijk.

The Uithuizerwad is not accessible. You can oversee it well. Because the birds can often be seen quite far away, a spotting scope is highly recommended here. From the parking lot at the Ruidhorn you can walk to two bird watching walls. Both areas are also easy to see from the dike. Click on the P in the map to get directions.

Nederlands: Het Uithuizerwad is niet toegankelijk. Je kunt het wel goed overzien. Omdat de vogels vaak vrij ver weg te zien zijn, is een telescoop wel echt een aanrader hier. Vanaf het parkeerterrein bij de Ruidhorn kan je naar twee vogelkijkwanden lopen. De beide gebieden zijn ook vanaf de dijk goed te overzien.
