Beautiful 8 km walk in National Park De Meinweg along forest and heathland on the border of the Netherlands and Germany.
National Park De Meinweg is a unique terraced landscape of 1800 hectares on the border of the Netherlands and Germany. Three fractures divide De Meinweg National Park into four different terraces. Water rises to the surface at the base of the fractures. You can find fens in various places here. Several streams also flow through the park.
This walk runs on both sides of the border along the Bosbeek stream. You hardly see anything from that stream, because there is almost no water in it and it lies hidden. You can, however, enjoy the Rolvennen, a series of beautifully situated heathland fens. The route is very beautiful in terms of landscape, especially if you walk the route clockwise, the landscape becomes more and more beautiful. Birds you can encounter along the way are Pitulice sfârâitoare, Cuc, Ciocârlie de pădure, Ciocârlie, Fâsă de pădure, Mărăcinar negru, Codroș de pădure, Muscar negru, Presură galbenă, Aușel cu cap galben, Pițigoi moțat, Sturz de vâsc and Sfrâncioc roșiatic.

De Meinweg National Park is located east of the city of Roermond on the border of the Netherlands and Germany. This walk of about 8 km around the Bosbeek stream is a quiet nature walk through the border area. You can park at restaurant and riding school Venhof. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking lot you can walk to De Meinweg National Park within a few minutes. The German-Dutch border is formed naturally in this area by the winding Bosbeek stream, which you walk around. Along the way you walk through forests and over heaths and you pass viewpoints and an observation tower. From the tower you can sometimes see or hear Grangur .

The converted farm Gitstapper Hof near the village of Etsberg is an ideal place to spend the night near De Meinweg National Park. The farm used to supply the adjacent Gitstapper water mill with wheat for milling. The farm has recently been completely renovated and since this renovation it has been possible to spend the night at this authentic location. Gitstapper Hof is located close to the old water mill and two restaurants, but mainly in a wonderfully quiet area on the fields between the lake Effelderwaldsee and the adjacent forest.
Double room from €75 per night. Offer: for € 45.00 per person you can book a Burgundian breakfast and a delicious 3-course menu in the evening in the adjacent restaurant Aan De Hoeve.
