De Geul is a fresh water lake with higher and lower vegetation around. A colony of Lopătar is hidden in the closed area behind the far end.

Description

The colony of Cormoran mare in De Geul is impressive (over 1000 nests in 2020) and the Lopătar fly on and off to their colony too. The number of ducks can vary, but species like Rață lingurar , Rață pestriță , Rață moțată , Rață cu cap castaniu and sometimes Rață cârâitoare can be observed, while songbirds like Gușă vânătă and Privighetoare roșcată perform as a background choir. In some years, Corcodel cu gât negru will breed here.

Nederlands: De Geul is een zoetwatermeer met rondom hogere en lagere begroeiing. De kolonie Cormoran mare in De Geul is indrukwekkend (meer dan 1000 nesten in 2020). Een kolonie Lopătar bevindt zich verborgen in het afgesloten gebied. Je ziet wel Lopătar af en aan vliegen naar de kolonie. Het aantal eenden kan variëren, maar er zijn soorten als Rață lingurar, Rață pestriță, Rață moțată, Rață cu cap castaniu en soms Rață cârâitoare te zien, terwijl zangvogels als Gușă vânătă en Privighetoare roșcată optreden als achtergrondkoor. Over enkele jaren zal Corcodel cu gât negru hier waarschijnlijk broeden.

The viewpoint of De Geul has a parking lot for a few cars, but the roadside can be used additionally.

There is only one observation platform, but the road leading to it has been described under 'Mokbaai' on this website. There is a path that can be followed with a ranger, to be booked at Ecomare (see link below).
