In the Merzouga region you can find desert specialties such as Caprimulg egiptean, Silvie de Sahara, Vrabie de deșert, Prigorie cu obraz albastru, Găinușă cu coroană and Buhă de deșert. The little gerbil (Jaculus jaculus) can be found on a nocturnal excursion.

Coming from the north you drive on the asphalt road N13 Erfoud via Rissani to Merzouga. Since some species are very difficult to find themselves and you have to drive partly through the sandy desert, I recommend the Desert Day Trip from Gayuinbirding (see the link below). Within a day they can reliably show all the birds in the region.
