Description
Monti della Tolfa (Tolfa hills) include coppice woods and grasslands where "maremmana" cows are bred in the wild. The high biodiversity of plants and animals supports a high bird diversity. Among the breeding birds are Barză neagră, Gaie roșie, Gaie neagră, Șerpar, Viespar, Pasărea ogorului, Caprimulg, Dumbrăveancă, Ciocârlie de Bărăgan, Ciocârlie de stol, Ciocârlie de pădure, Fâsă de câmp, Silvie de tufiș, Sfrâncioc roșiatic, Sfrâncioc cu frunte neagră and Presură de grădină. The area includes some nature reserves (Monterano, Marturanum, Faggeta di Allumiere, Caldara di Manziana), hunting areas and villages.

Access
It's possible to reach the area by car, train (Rome-Civitavecchia and Rome-Viterbo railways) or bus. The villages of Allumiere, Tolfa, Canale Monterano an Barbarano Romano are the best starting points to explore Tolfa hills hiking or mountainbiking. A 10 km circular walk departing from the village of Tolfa is indicated on the map.
