Description
Margaret Island (Margitsziget) is a 2.8 km long and 500 m wide island in the middle of the river Danube in central Budapest. Its 96.5 hectares area is mostly covered by landscape parks, and is a popular recreational area. The island's attractions include walkways, medieval ruins, a small zoo, a fountain, a water tower, swimming pools, and a lido. Thanks to the old woods, parks, and the river Danube, many birds live or feed on the island.
Birds you can observe on the island or on the river include Pescăruș râzător, Pescăruș cu picioare galbene, Cormoran mare, Ciocănitoare pestriță mare, Ciocănitoare de stejar, Ghionoaie verde, Ciocănitoare de grădini, Botgros, Sturz de vâsc, Huhurez mic, Privighetoare roșcată, Pițigoi codat, Florinte and Sticlete.

Margitsziget is located in central Budapest. The island spans the area between the Margaret Bridge (south) and the Árpád Bridge (north). To get there: take tram 4 or 6 and get off at Margitsziget stop, or take bus 26 departing from Nyugati Railway Station, which travels through the island. There are many trails to explore the island. The circular walk shown on the map is approximately 5 km.
