Description
The raptor watchpoint near Kalloni provides a great view over the valley southwards that mainly raptors and storks tend to follow northwards during their spring migration. You need to have a bit of luck, but if you're there during a peak migration event, hundreds and hundreds of raptors and storks can be observed. Common species that can be seen are harriers, like Erete sur and even Erete alb, storks, like Barză neagră and Barză albă, Șorecar mare, Șorecar de stepă, Șerpar, Viespar, Uliu cu picioare scurte, Uliu porumbar, Șoimul rândunelelor, Vânturel de seară, Șoim mediteranean, Vânturel mic and Șoim călător. Scarcer species can sometimes be seen within flocks of other raptors, like Acvilă țipătoare mică, Acvilă porumbacă, Acvilă mică and Acvilă de câmp.
The area surrounding the viewpoint is also good for typical inland species, like Mierlă albastră, Pietrar mediteranean and Presură cu cap sur.
