Description
Alexandros Salt Pans are clearly no longer used for salt production. There are several small lagoons by the beach at the south side and the tarmac road follows the beach. A good dirt track continues along the embankment all the way, finishing as a dead end after 2.4 kilometres.
I visited the site in September during high tide (a dozen of both Pescăruș cu cap negru and Chiră de mare, Pescăruș cu picioare galbene, Pescăriță mare, Cormoran mic and Cormoran mare, Egretă mică, Stufărică pătată), was somewhat surprised by the low number of birds, so I returned during low tide, only to find even fewer birds and not a single shorebird.
Local eBird hotspot also mention Stufărică, Rândunică roșcată, Pelican creț, Flamingo roz, Chiră mică, Drepnea palidă, Prundăraș de sărătură, Culic mic, Fluierar cu picioare roșii, and Fluierar cu picioare verzi.
