Description
The area of Windknollen - close to the city of Jena - is a small mountain with a mosaic landscape containing mostly semi-dry short grass vegetation, temporarily water-filled depressions, bushes, mixed deciduous forest and isles of pine trees. Once a military training area it is now a little nature reserve (185 ha). Typical birds here are Ciocârlie, Ciocârlie de pădure, Presură sură, Sfrâncioc roșiatic and Mărăcinar negru. You can also easily find Presură galbenă, Ghionoaie sură , Pițigoi de brădet, Vânturel roșu Șorecar comun and Gaie roșie.

You can access Windknollen only on foot from different directions, for example from the village of Closewitz or through Steingrund.
