Description

Navigation is quite simple: Follow the small road northwards from the car park. Soon afterwards you can look on a shallow pond. On its shoreline regularly common wader species like Prundăraș gulerat mic, Fluierar de mlaștină and others can be observed. Gaie neagră and Erete de stuf are soaring often above the area.

If you continue on this road you're approaching the railway. Shortly before the crossing a way leads westwards. The reeds there hold Grelușel de stuf and Lăcar mare. According to the sign posts it is apparently allowed to walk on it, but it leeds to the local gravel pit, so be careful and respect possible future changes. Where the reeds turn into bushes and riparian forest you can expect Inăriță mică, Privighetoare roșcată, Grangur, Cuc and Ghionoaie sură. Stârc cenușiu breed in the area, but out of sight from the public paths. In recent years single Stârc roșu have tried to breed as well, in most years in mixed pairs. So pay attention to overflying herons!

The path immediately north of the railway crossing would lead directly to an observation hide, which overlooked a pond with interesting shallow-waterzones and was surrounded by riparian forest. In the evening hours it had been a good place for Stârc de noapte. However, as of 2024 the last part of the path is closed for public. The same counts for the path leading eastwards along the shoreline of the activ quarry ponds.

From the southwestern shore of the largest pond you have at least good chances to encounter with the key species, the only breeding pair of Chiră de baltă in Upper Franconia. Pay there furthermore attention to Lăstun de mal and Pescăruș cu picioare galbene. Out of the scrubs around the ponds Lăcar de mlaștină, Gușă vânătă and sometimes Grelușel pătat are singing. Sadly, it's currently not possible to get to the lake in the northeast, because the sandbanks were attractive for resting waders in the past years. Hopefully, the path will be opened in the future again!
