A mosaic landscape of dozens of ponds and pools, interscattered with reedbeds, meadows and forest patches, attracts a variety of breeding species and migrants
This is perhaps THE PLACE to visit in Northrhine-Westfalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen), due to its huge list of breeding species and especially the migrants. During spring and autumn, many waders, gulls, or passerines use the site as a stop-over, during the entire year hundreds of different duck and goose species can be observed. Observation infrastructure is good, with many hides and an observation tower.
There's a car park just next to the visitor center at Coermühle 181, where you can park your car. Access by public transportation is much less comfortable, as the busstop "Rieselfelder" lies fairly far away and only few buses drive by.
The birding is either done by foot or by bike, the latter being much more comfortable, as you can cover much greater distances.
Not all roads are open to the public. Please respect the gates and don't trespass.
