A former gravel pit developed into a unique nature reserve where many birds can be seen. The area is completely fenced for protection.
The Kohlplattenschlag nature reserve covers an area of 49 hectare. After the completion of the gravel mining, the area was completely restructured in 1994 into a refuge for numerous animal and plant species. The Kohlplattenschlag offers a breeding, feeding and resting place for water birds, waders and migratory birds. Among the breeding birds are Sfrâncioc roșiatic, Pescăraș albastru, Ciocănitoare de stejar, Prundăraș gulerat mic, Lăstun de mal and Erete de stuf. It is possible to observe the birds without disturbance in the three observation places.
Explore the area from the car park on foot. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the car park. A circular walk around the area is about 3 km.
