Description

In winter, the Hurstsee is home to a great number and variety of ducks and other waterbirds. There are good numbers (between 15 and 100+) of Rață mare, Rață pestriță, Rață moțată, Rață cu cap castaniu, Lișiță and Cormoran mare.

Smaller groups of Rață mică and Corcodel mare can usually be seen scattered across the lake. Gâscă egipteană and Lebădă de vară are often present, as well as Egretă mare, Stârc cenușiu, Pescăraș albastru and Codobatură de munte along the fringes of the lake.

With a bit of luck, you can also see Ferestraș mare, Rață fluierătoare, Rață sulițar, Rață cârâitoare (on spring migration) or even a stunning Ferestraș mic here!

Waterbirds are the main attraction, but the trees and bushes around the lake are worth checking too. There are plenty of common woodland / garden birds, plus a good chance of seeing (or hearing) any of the following: Scatiu, Botgros, Mugurar, Brumăriță de pădure, Aușel sprâncenat, Sturzul viilor and Ciocănitoare neagră.
