Massive reedbeds with open water that attract reed birds and during autumn migration many songbirds.
The Gotteskoogsee is a formerly prestigious rewilding project that lets the fomerly massive lake revive. Lucky for the birds, but unlucky for the birdwatchers, only a small section can be visited. It is almost guaranteed that you can see Buhai de baltă and Pițigoi de stuf in the massive reedbeds. During autumn migration it serves like a magnet to songbirds in the otherwise almost dead agricultural landscape with huge amounts of thrushes.
The Gotteskoogsee is located in the northwest of Schleswig-Holstein, near the German-Danish border, 12 km inland from the Wadden Sea. There are two options for parking. Click on a P in the map for directions. The circular walking route indicated on the map is about 3 km.
