Description
The Blankensee can be overlooked best from a boardwalk near the village of the same name. Close views of Pițigoi de stuf and Lăcar de stuf, with luck also Boicuș, are possible from the boardwalk (no scope needed). Buhai de baltă is often seen flying out of the reeds near the boardwalk, especially in winter. An occupied Uligan pescar nest can be seen from the boardwalk in summer.
Thousands of ducks and geese are on the lake in winter. Ferestraș mic, Ferestraș mare and Rață sunătoare give good views. Others are Rață cu cap castaniu, Rață moțată, Rață fluierătoare and Rață pestriță. Codalb is regularly seen. The most common large gull is Pescăruș pontic.

Walking through the village (Cănăraș, Barză albă), make sure to have a look for Pescăraș albastru along the river Nieplitz.

From the tower you overlook the wetlands of the Ungeheuerwiesen. A breeding Uligan pescar, Nagâț, Becațină comună and with luck Pupăză can be seen. In winter Cocor, Ploier auriu and northern geese are typical species. Sfrâncioc mare is regurlarly seen in the open winter landscape.
