Description
The Baggersee Grötzingen is a former gravel pit that is now part nature reserve, part recreational (fishing, bathing zone). In winter there are usually good numbers of Rață moțată, Rață pestriță, Rață mică, Corcodel mare, Stârc cenușiu and Cormoran mare. They are sometimes joined by smaller numbers or individual Rață cu cap castaniu, Rață sunătoare, Rață lingurar or Rață mandarin.
Most years, some more uncommon or rare species appear at some point during the winter. In recent years, Rață cu cap negru, Corcodel cu gât roșu, Rață neagră and Rață catifelată have all been seen here. The woods surrounding the lake are a good place to look out for less common woodland species, such as Ghionoaie sură, Ciocănitoare pestriță mică and Botgros.
